Free Microsoft Office for Students

Butte College students have free access to Microsoft Office ProPlus through the Microsoft Student Advantage program.

This automatically updatable, subscription-based software ensures you always have the latest version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and more for as long as you are a student of Butte College and the program continues through Microsoft.

Butte College does not provide technical support for personally owned computers and devices. Please be sure you read all requirements and instructions before installing. You agree to install Office at your own risk, and that should you encounter issues, you will need to seek assistance from a third party.

How to Install

To install Microsoft Office ProPlus on desktops, students should follow these instructions:

1. Sign in to your Butte College Office 365 Account with your Butte College ID and password
2. Once logged in, click on the setting's gear in the upper right corner and select Office 365 Settings:
   
3. On the left side, select Software.
   
4. The system will detect the operating system you are running and recommend the latest version of Office for you to install. Once you verify the version to install, click the Install button.
   Note: At this time, Butte College strongly recommends the 32-bit version of Office, even if your system is 64-bit.

6. If you are prompted to Run or Save the file, select Run.
7. Microsoft Office will install in the background and after a few minutes you will receive a notice stating "Welcome to your new Office." At this screen click Next.
8. Follow the prompts through the installation, selecting the options you want.
9. When all options are selected a video will play explaining some of the features of Office. Once the video is done it will ask you to Sign in. At the Sign in prompt enter your username@student.ngskmc-eis.net email address and click Next.
10. Follow the remaining prompts and when complete you can begin to use the Office products.

Mobile Device Installation

To install Office 365 ProPlus on mobile devices, go to Office on Mobile Devices, or the App Store on iOS devices or Google Play on Android devices to find the applications and enter your Butte College account information.
